Have a great summer

Sing! Bentley Heath Posted on 22/07/2013 by Bob Manekshaw23/07/2013avatar

It’s hard to believe that Sing! Bentley Heath choir has reached the end of its third year of song. In that time the choir has grown and developed its own character and style and as a community choir we have entertained not only ourselves but members of the public who have shown their appreciation by digging deep into their pockets and helping us to raise over £800 this year which we have given to local charities.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Caroline, the founder of our choir and the person who started us all on this journey. She had confidence in you all and that you would rally behind a new musical director and she was right – the support that you have given Jane is truly amazing and I have a recording from Temple Balsall that proves it!. I recently had the pleasure of presenting Caroline with her bracelet and vouchers which she loved and she asked me to pass on her thanks to you all for being so kind and generous.

One of the ongoing issues we have had over the last year or so is the absence of an accompanist. It makes any musical directors work much harder having to do both roles. We have been actively trying to recruit a pianist but often word of mouth is the best way so please remember to tell your friends about the choir and how great we are 🙂 and ask them if they know anyone who can play the piano for us. If you know of any events, groups or magazines/newsletters where we can promote the choir and recruit new members then please let the committee know. We have a mountain of leaflets that we are keen to distribute.

Twitter (www.twitter.com/singbentleyheat) and facebook (www.facebook.com/groups/singbentleyheath) are now running and are being updated regularly and we now also have the Website running again (www.singbentleyheath.org.uk). Though some of the info needs to be updated all term dates are listed on the website and news/information will be regularly posted there .

I am really looking forward to coming back after the summer and I hope you are too. Jane has put together a great program for next year and our new collection of music to sing should have something for everyone including a new Christmas medley and songs from the Carpenters, Sinatra (& Nancy) and the Buble. The committee are planning a number of social events through the year and some low key concerts within the community e.g. Sunrise, Marie Curie etc.so there should be something for everyone throughout the year.

Have a great summer and see you all on September 12th

Regards – Bob

Pianist Required for Community Choir

Sing! Bentley Heath Posted on 18/07/2013 by Bob Manekshaw21/07/2013avatar

PIANIST REQUIRED!  (Printed in Knowle Parish Magazine)

Do you tickle the ivories and would you like to be involved with a friendly community choir? SING! BENTLEY HEATH is a thriving group of singers who need an experienced pianist to accompany them on Thursday evenings 7.45 to 9.15pm and for occasional concerts in the Solihull area.

Musical Director Jane Perrins says, “We have a lot of fun in the choir and although I’m a pianist too, I need to concentrate on conducting rather than hopping up and down from the piano. If anyone in the Knowle and Dorridge area can help us, we’d be so grateful. We’re a friendly crowd and this might suit either a talented teenager who’s doing an Arts Award, or a retired musician or any experienced pianist who loves making music!”

If you’re interested, please email enquiries@singbentleyheath.org.uk or visit the Sing! Bentley Heath web site.
