I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2
Released in May 1987 by Irish rock band U2, ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ was the second single from their album ‘The Joshua Tree.’ The song was a hit and peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart, as well as number one in the US.
The song was inspired by the band’s interest in American music. The lyrics are quite gospel inspired and describe spiritual yearning. Bono’s vocals are in high register in the song, and lead guitarist the Edge plays a charming arpeggio. Adding to the gospel qualities of the song are choir-like backing vocals provided by the Edge and the producers.
It received two nominations for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year’ at the Grammy Awards in 1988, and has subsequently become one of the group’s most well known songs, often being a favourite to perform at their concert tours.
Many critics have ranked this song as among the ‘greatest tracks in music history’ and we hope to do it justice with our special arrangement at Spring Sing! 2018.
