Another favourite in Sing! Bentley Heath’s song-list is this Carpenters’ classic. “Yesterday Once More” was a number 2 hit in Britain and is the group’s biggest song worldwide.

The very musical among you will know it’s composed in the key of E. For the rest of us, it’s simply a gorgeous classic that evokes a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia and a passion for the music that becomes the soundtrack of our lives:  “…. Every sha- la- la- la…”

Richard Carpenter once said that it was the favourite of all the songs he’d written.

Dionne Warwick, a close friend of brother and sister Richard and Karen Carpenter, sang the song live in Las Vegas, the night before Karen’s sad death in 1983.

None of us can hope to match Karen Carpenter’s crystal clear vocal but we’ll do our best to do justice to this classic ballad.
