Who are Sing! Bentley Heath?
Sing! Bentley Heath is your community choir, meeting on Thursday evenings during term time at our new rehearsal venue at St. Philip’s Church Centre, Manor Road in Dorridge. The choir is open to everyone – no auditions or prior singing experience is necessary. We sing a variety of songs and styles from pop to swing and there is no obligation to perform in concerts or in public. So if you’d like to be a member, first please fill out the joining form found on the Contact Us page, and our Membership Secretary will be in touch to arrange for you to come along and join in the fun singing with our friendly choir. Depending on availability of places, you may have to go on the waiting list so it might be a bit of a wait, but you’ll always be made welcome whatever happens. We’re a friendly bunch so there’s no need to feel nervous about meeting new people!!
As a community choir, we love to support local charities and events. We aim to raise around £4,500 every year which we share between two local causes chosen by the choir members. We are also available to sing at local venues and to support fund raising activities in the borough. We have two major concerts every year and we also have bookings for weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs as they say.
We recorded some of our favourite tracks at AIR studios in London which was an inspiring and unforgettable experience for the choir. We produced an EP CD which we sell to raise funds for our good causes. We had hoped to repeat the experience at Abbey Road in 2020 for our tenth anniversary as a choir but this has had to be postponed for a while.
We have supported some of the choir members who can’t get enough music and formed their own groups like the Harmony group and the shanty side. It’s been lovely to see them develop their own talents and styles and we provide support for any member who has a musical project. Pre-COVID, we organised a number of social events through the year like cinema trips, concerts and social evenings. Post covid, we are still finding our new normal and hope to return to many of our activities as it becomes safe to do so.
Our choir is a charity, not a business or a franchise and is run by the members for the members. The weekly fees are there to cover the hire of the hall, provide music, help subsidise trips and social events and surpluses are paid to our charitable causes. Where else can you get an evening of fun for £3?
We don’t sing because we’re happy, we’re happy because we sing!.
