Community Songsters aim to raise roof for charity
Just over a week to go till the 80 singers of Sing! Bentley Heath community choir take to the stage at Knowle Parish church to perform a variety of popular melodies like Bridge over Troubled Water and The Climb. Hot on the heels of their successful Christmas performances at the new Marie Curie Hospice and Solihull Hospital, the choir’s latest project under the baton of Jane Perrins combines some old favourites like Barbara Ann and Fields of Gold with many new arrangements and modern swing melodies.
The concert aims to raise £1000 for two local charities which were nominated by members of the choir this year. Warwickshire Air Ambulance, which operates in our area, were called out for and assisted two members of the choir. We also have several members of the choir who volunteer at Solihull MIND who provide support for people with mental health issues and concerns. Standley & Co, solicitors in Knowle, have kindly offered to sponsor the concert and provide the refreshments for the interval. Session musician, teacher and band leader, Matt Platt, will provide some contrasting Jazz, soul and funk with some of his students as our special guest artist so the evening will have something for everyone. The chairman, Bob Manekshaw, said it was fantastic the way local firms and people were rallying around the concert and providing support, both financially and with services.
Tickets for Spring Sing! on the 5th April at 7pm (doors open 6:30pm) are available by phone – 07582 083651, on the door, or online – www.singbentleyheath.org.uk
